The word “Diwali” always brings a smile to our faces. It instantly makes you think of lights, celebrations, quality time with family and friends, and of course, the exciting card games we play.

Rummy is played in many parts of India during the festive season. Some play it casually, and while it may get a bit competitive in some families, it is always a great way to bring everyone together. So here are a few tips to make your Diwali more exciting with a rummy party.

Wear ethnic clothes

It’s Diwali, it’s an occasion, don’t just bring out your daily round-neck t-shirt and shorts, wear something ethnic. To be honest, it doesn’t matter what you wear, it’s your house, it’s your party, but wearing something different gives more weight to the occasion.

Get 2 deck of cards

To play 13 card rummy, you will need at least 2 decks of cards unless it’s just the two of you playing a 2-player 1 Deal game. Get two new decks, shiny and silky, the ones that slip out of your hand if you are not careful.

You can play for money or….

You can play with other interesting things. For example, let’s say you are playing with a total of six players, whoever wins a game can give a dare to the other players, and please don’t ask “Who was your crush in college?”, here are some more interesting things that you can do:

  • Make your opponents take a bite of a green chilli. It will mess with their brain and you will have a higher chance of winning the next game. Unless you have someone who eats chillies for fun.
  • Make them squeeze a quarter of a lemon in their mouth. Hey, it’s a festival where we usually overload on sweets, some people might like this punishment.
  • Whoever comes last brings the next round of snacks for everyone. Nobody likes to get up from a comfortable sitting position to get snacks, this is a great way to get it for yourself.

Watch out for cheaters

There’s always one person who loves cheating. And it might not be because they are not good at the game, it’s just that they get a kick out of it. Now since you are not playing on an app like RummyCulture, where fair play is guaranteed, in real life you will need to monitor all the pointers mentioned below:

  • Make sure that no one has an identical extra deck of cards. They can use cards from this deck to make their sequences and sets.
  • Sometimes people keep the printed joker card hidden somewhere near them, keep an eye out for that.
  • Look at the cards carefully when someone declares, it might be an invalid declaration that they want to pass as a valid one.
  • Rummy is a game where two players can team up to make one of them win, so be careful about this aspect of the game as well. Unlike online rummy in RummyCulture, there’s no 24×7 monitoring of games in real life.
